MGI Hub
Three Munich-based universities Technische Universität München (TUM), Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften München (HM) and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), were awarded the contract for the conception and implementation of the Munich Global Impact Hub (MGIH) up to April 2024, by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate's EXIST-Potentiale programme.
The goal of the EXIST-Potential program is to implement a perceptible and activating startup culture at universities, and create necessary framework conditions for innovative and high-growth startups from science to create future-proof jobs in the region in the medium term.
We aim to use all our strengths to advance Munich on its way to becoming a globally visible startup-driven and impact-oriented ecosystem. That is why we have joined forces with long-standing partners to launch institutions that are sustainably and ambitiously committed to further developing Munich's ecosystem.
The MGI Hub aims to support entrepreneurial, international talents on their way through the Munich ecosystem within a biannual program and serves as an important interface for innovation and entrepreneurship in the Munich region. Based on their experience in Munich innovation ecosystem management, Munich Innovation Ecosystem GmbH (former MUC SUMMIT) was selected by MGI Hub as the ecosystem integrator to coordinate the activities of the three universities.

Prof. Dr. Francesca Biagini is full Professor of Applied Mathematics and Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich.
She studied mathematics at the University of Pisa and at the Scuola Normale di Pisa, where she also completed her PhD.
She was an assistant professor at the University of Bologna from 1999 to 2005, when she moved to Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich.
She has been president of the Bachelier Finance Society for the 2020–2021 term.
My engagement in the Advisory Board is motivated by my commitment to promote innovation at international level at LMU.

Claudia Doblinger is Professor of Innovation and Technology Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Straubing Campus for Biotechnology and Sustainability and at the School of Management.
Before accepting the appointment at TUM in October 2018, she worked as a project manager for digitalization at Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH and as an (external) researcher at the University of Regensburg.
She studied business administration at the University of Regensburg, where she received her PhD in innovation and technology management.
After her doctorate, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Harvard Kennedy School. She has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Colorado in Boulder and the University of Cambridge.
Her research focuses on the intersection of public policy, firm-level technological innovation, and sustainability, with a particular emphasis on the (bio)energy sector.
Her main focus is on understanding how policy incentives influence firms' innovation and entrepreneurial activities, especially in the cleantech sector.
Her research has been published in international journals such as Nature Energy, Academy of Management Annals or Research Policy.
The integration of all stakeholders in and around Munich to expand the innovation ecosystem is a unique opportunity for more innovation and startups in the region.

Born in Munich in 1987, Katharina studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich, majoring in aerospace engineering.
After successfully completing her studies, she decided to become an MBA scholar at the Collège des Ingénieurs, which offers the exciting opportunity to acquire business and management skills through a "learning by doing" approach. As part of this program, she became a junior consultant and project manager in risk management at Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, Germany.
Currently, she has her own company, Vectoflow, which manufactures special sensors in the field of aerodynamics and complete measurement systems. The idea for Vectoflow came from many years of experience in academia and industry. While working for NASA, Airbus, and BMW in the field of flow analysis, she was responsible for working with measurement systems from suppliers that are her current competition.
Katharina is mainly responsible for strategy, business development, and finance.
I am here because I would like to give something back. I received a lot of support, especially from UTUM in the beginning, so I'm also happy to help prospective founders.

Through his experience and promotion in the field of funding acquisition, Robert supports startups in the topic of funding and, as a passionate networker, connects startups with the right contacts from business, science and politics.
The Advisory Board offers us at WERK1 the opportunity to further expand Munich as a location with the most important players in the Munich innovation and startup ecosystem, so that Munich and Bavaria continue to gain in international appeal. Prof. Dr. Thomas Stumpp graduated from the University of Tübingen.
After his employment and doctorate in the field of numerical mathematics, he joined IBM Germany in 2005. There he worked as a senior consultant in the area of supply chain management in strategy, process, and IT consulting and was involved in various business optimization projects.
In 2009, Prof Dr. Stumpp accepted the call for a professorship at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at HM.
From 2009 to 2016, he was the Dean of Studies of the Faculty, and since 2016 he has been Vice President for Business at HM. In his department, the HM has for the first time strategically anchored the field of action Transfer at the university management level. In this area, Prof. Dr. Stumpp is responsible for the field of entrepreneurship, which is crucial for the transfer and university profile of the HM, because in entrepreneurship, the HM with the SCE, its Entrepreneurship Center, has long held a top position in the German university landscape across all university types.
Munich is one of the most livable and attractive metropolises, but at the same time an eminently innovation-friendly region that is just as open to young talent and startups as it is to established companies from all over the world. Munich's major entrepreneurial universities make a significant contribution to this. I hope that the MGIHub, through which these universities work together, will help to further develop and shape this environment, which is open to the world and to innovation - in pursuit of the greater goal of a sustainable future worth living in. Based on this hope and expectation, I am involved in the Advisory Board of the MGI Hub as Vice President of HM.
